Training Class Descriptions
Not sure which class is right for you? Below is a brief summary of classes SCRWA offers throughout the year. Along with the description is the number of continuing education (CE) hours given per class and to which license each class applies. Click here to view our current Training Calendar.

- All About Valves: Covers altitude valve, pressure valves and gate valve operations, maintenance as well as how to trouble shoot problematic pressure issues related to valves. CE Hours: 6; License: Water Treatment/Water Distribution Operator.
- Asbestos Initial/Re-Certification Training: SCDHEC approved asbestos worker III training and certification which includes proper handling and disposal procedures. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Alternative Disinfection Techniques: An in-depth look at gas chlorine vs. hypochlorination systems vs. polyphosphate additives to better improve water quality. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Basic Math for Operators: Specifically designed to assist current and future system operators in understanding basic math to pass state exams and/or assist in their job duties and requirements. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.

- Chlorine Safety & Alternative Applications: How chlorine gas operates; what safety precautions are needed and what other water treatment processes are out there - including Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Collection System O&M/High Pressure Jetters: An in-depth look at sanitary sewer cleaning through high pressure equipment including nozzle selection and equipment operation and maintenance. CE Hours: 6; License: Wastewater Operator.
- Confined Spaces: Advanced training that covers all aspect of OSHA Reg. 29 cfr 1910.146 – including Actual Confined Space Entry and permit documentation. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Disinfection in Water Treatment: Covers basic water treatment processes including dosing, pH scaling chart and diagnosis, as well as understanding chlorine effects on water. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Fire Hydrant Installation, Repair & Maintenance: Covers Proper Hydrant installation, correct hydrant operations, to include actual on-site troubleshooting, repair and maintenance. CE Hours: 6; License: Water Distribution Operator.
- Fiscal Sustainability Planning &Asset Management: Covers 5 points of management – assets, funding, service level, life cycle, and criticality. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- SCDOT Flagger Certification: SCDOT required certification in all state and federal rules and regulations for flagger duties. No CE hours are issued as this class is not accepted by LLR for license training.
- Introduction to SCADA Systems: Covers basic SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) applications and performance skills through electronic media (i.e. cell phones, iPads, laptops). CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Introduction to Water Treatment: Basic introduction to why water treatment is needed, how water quality is so important to public health. CE Hours: 6; License: Ground/Surface Potable Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator.
- Laws & Regulations 130 - Facility Operation & Documentation: Review of the basic laws and regulation that are required by SCDHEC for water & wastewater treatment plant operators. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
- OSHA Compliance & Silica Training: Covers all aspects of OSHA Reg. 29 CFR 1926.1153 (Respirable Crystalline Silica) compliance rules and regulations. CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Sustainable Utility Management: Comprehensive look at the 10 key areas of management including an interactive workshop.
CE Hours: 6; License: Water and Wastewater Operator. - Trenching/Shoring & Confined Space Competency: Covers all aspects of OSHA Reg. 29 CFR 1926, Subpart P – including trench safety, confined space and soil analysis/dangers. CE Hours: 8; License: Water and Wastewater Operator.
- Water Distribution C&D License Advancement Training: Comprehensive 3 ½ day training course that covers all aspects of D and or C water distribution duties and responsibilities required by a system operator. Class runs 8a-4p Tuesday - Thursday and 8a-12p Friday.
CE Hours: 28; License: Water Distribution Operator. - Water Pipe/Tank Rehabilitation: This course covers water pipe rehabilitation to include cured-in-place (CIP) grouting and/or pigging, water tank inspection/painting applications as well as the pros and cons of allow companies to utilize your water tanks for antennas.
CE Hours: 6; License: Water Treatment and Water Distribution Operator.
It is the responsibility of the licensed operator to apply Continuing Education (CE) hours that follow ABC Core Competency guidelines towards the 12 hours of education required biannually for operator licensing renewals.
